Why does this happen every time I crop pictures? It does it to the whole photo, just showing a piece without showing the little boys face. You can see the line distortion in his hair, it just started doing that out of nowhere. I downloaded the new update for Photoshop CC and just noticed it happening. Not sure if that is why but I don't know how to fix it! Please help.

It looks to me as if you are cropping via the wrong method.

Check that when you select the 'Crop' tool that its options are set to 'Ratio' and both input fields are blank...



...then just manually adjust the crop.

The effect you are experiencing normally occurs with some sort of compression which can be done if a 'resolution' is entered in the 'W x H Resolution' method.

You could still use this method but either leave the 'Resolution' field blank or keep it the same as the image is already.

Difficult to say exactly what the problem is without knowing how you are using the tool. If this doesn't fix it then could you post your settings for the tool?...it would be very helpful.

Its difficult to say on processes like this as it could be due to a variety of things.

As you've said this has started since an update to PS then I suggest you roll-back to a working version....especially if the new 'update' is version 2017.....its riddled with bugs....so much so if it were a horse it would be put down.

2015.5.1 made a valiant attempt at being usable if only by virtue that its not as memory hungry as previous versions, and going back further, 2014 was actually pretty stable.

Sorry that's not much help but it's 99% probable to be a software issue rather than a settings issue.

If you don't want to roll-back then you could try one of two things....the usual 'reset the preferences'...which may work, or just view it at 100% and see if you can still see the problem....if not then don't worry about it.

You could also try it on another image and see if it does the same thing....if so then it would be good to upload that image so that we may try to replicate the issue....still no guarantee of a solution though.

You can use the 'Previous Versions' from the Creative Cloud App.
