I have been using photoshop CS6 and i am always very eager to learn new things.
Can anyone point me in the right direction in achieving this look of the football player? It has a sort of metalic liquid look, with some great reflections and detail

Welcome to our forum!
My guess is a Topaz filter but there will be other opinions. I'll see if I can find some similar originals and check a couple of filters.

PS - About a year ago, or so, Clare started an "effects compendium" thread, but I'm seeing students and can't immediately put my hnds on it. If someone could direct the OP to it, I think it would help him.

I strongly recommend that you read through it. It discuses (or provides links to discussions of) many effects that are commonly requested.
