Text to Path

Hi,

I am wondering what the best or correct way to do this:

Crusty 4.jpg

The way I did it is as follows:

2 layers,

1st layer create a circle with the elliptical marquess tool - convert to a path and then type "CANOSCOM" on the path

2nd layer same as above except "COS COORD" as the text.

I had a real problem getting the COS Coord to be at the bottom as it is - I had to use the free transform tool to be able to get the letters in the correct orientation.

Is there another way to get the text effect without 2 layers?

Thanks

Tony

There is another way.... type the words in the same path after canoscom but in reverse ( CANOSCOM DROOC SOC ) ... and use the space bar to move in place or use the move tool.... This way it keeps the text in a uniform orbit around the image.

I can show you what I mean in an image but I'm running a huge file in a different apps right now and can't open PS on both my computers. I'll do one later....

Hi dv8_fx,

I tried what you suggested - the DROOC SOC is upside down and I can't figure out a way of selecting it only to flip it?

WHAT WAS I THINKING?..... lol.... sorry my bad..... disregard what I first posted....

Bad news is you have to use 2 layers.... the good news is you don't have to use the tansform tool...... and you will still end up with a symmetrically balanced text .

Duplicate your first text layer..... hide the first layer...... Replace text with COS COORD....

Click the text..... let the text tool hover over the text and hold down CTRL... an arrow will appear next to the tool....

text-1.jpg

Click and drag the text into the center of the work path.... if done right it should look like this...

text2.jpg

Select the text again before C of COS , let the text tool hover over the text and hold down CTRL... an arrow will appear next to the tool.... Drag the text into position....

text3.jpg

.... your in the homestretch...

In your text character window, adjust the Baseline shift.... I used -26.... your's might be different.

text4.jpg

.... unhide your first text layer....

text5.jpg

Hope this helps.... sorry for my first post error... lol...

PS....

I could have advised to simply flip the path after changing the text ( TRANSFORM PATH>FLIP VERTICALLY ) rather than click drag text into centre of path..... do this.... etc.

But doing that sometimes distorts the path. All depends on text length and the path ellipse shape. Your shape is more elongated than mine and with letter spaces by the looks of it.

But you could do that.... it's a shorter method by two steps.

I leave it to your preference and and how it affects the text path shape when flipped.....

Hi dv8_fx

I did what you said and it worked perfectly. Can't thank you enough for the time and information.

Photoshop can do a heck of a lot but its gonna take years to figure it all out!!

Again, thank you
