Just a reminder to everyone that the freelance section will never get going if everyone just keeps doing work for free even if it IS posted in the general section. Why post things in the freelance section if everybody just does them anyway in the general section for free. If someone wants help....I have no problem showing or someone else showing someone how to do something. Heck I have learned alot here (thanks to all the gurus here btw). However if they just want someone to do it, and don't really care how to do it themselves, then why not let them pay someone something for it even if it is minimal. I work in a service oriented business and if we gave our services away then no one will pay for them ever.

Just my humble opinoin.

I agree completely.

Wake up folks, most people who ask for something for free are never seen or heard from again, except to ask for another freebie.

After have noticed a few s*it for brains here I guess you´re both right in what you´re saying. So, no more freebies from me either.

i'll still help out, but i'll just watermark it with EXAMPLE when i'm showing them how to do it, i also think that there should be at least some help for free too, as i don't live in the US nor can i take money (as i am a minor) AND i feel the only reward i get out of it is the satisfaction of a job well done however that is me and my young mind, i'm sure when i get older i'll be a little more different in my feelings towards the work ;) i see where you are coming from though

I'm the new girl here, so if help is not to be given for free, so be it. I may not know the ins and outs of this particular forum, but I do know there are lots of people here who love to help. When I went looking around for a forum to join, it was precisely that helpful spirit that made me join this one.

Why do people do it? Because it's there. Because they like doing it.

It's usually something that can be done in less than an hour (note that truly tedious work rarely/never gets done for free LOL) and provides a break from long term projects, housework, homework, jobs, etc.

The people with decent skills are on this forum in the first place to get out of the rut and keep the skills sharp. If I do something for someone and s/he goes away happy, that makes my day. Usually people are very grateful for the help they receive. If I don't see that person again I still feel that the time wasn't wasted - it helped someone, made me use skills I might not ordinarily use, and made me feel good.

I call that a win/win.

Where are you located, I don't think there is any law about not getting paid if you're a minor. My grandaughter has a pet sitting service and gets paid for it, and she's only 13.

PayPal is pretty much everywhere I think. Your parents could set up an account if you can't. I think they would be happy to see you earn a little money for yourself. This whole site is help for free, but I don't think it should be work for free.

Help is given for free. Help implies that someone needs help to do it themselves. If I need you to help me walk up the stairs, then I need you to help me do it. I try to go out of my way to help people do it themselves. If people want to educate themselves in photoshop, Im all for it. That is one of the primary reasons why we are all here. But when someone wants someone else to do it for them because the are unwilling to try it themselves or just flat out too lazy to learn it this is what I am referring to. When someone askes for help.....help them do it, but don't just do it for them. That doesn't help anyone. It just gets you taken advantage of.

Take this thread for an example (not throwing stones please no get offended) http://www.photoshopgurus.com/forum/photoshop-newbies/32647-how-can-i-do.html
The name of the thread itself implies that the original poster wants to learn how to do it, not have someone do it for them. But when you see request in the title regardless of what section it is in someone wants something done for them. In my opinoin that shouldn't be for free.

Just tryn to clarify.

I agree to an extent this is a forum providing help and normally for basic stuff I do and still everything I do is usually set to a 10 - 15 min limit and never do I produce a job well done, well not in my eyes any way because honestly I think there are people out there that make a living from this and they should be the 1s doing the work. I admit I have been relaxed and just do it out of boredom but I always expect someone else to come along and do a better job who have put the effort into it with a watermarked image so they are the 1s that will get paid. But with every piece I do upload I nearly always give detailed tutorials on what I did. I started a job last night removing a fence from a picture right across the faces etc and I thought to myself no this is not the kind of work I will be doing for free and I am not here to make money so I started it off so that 1 of you guys could finish it off and get paid and I specifically said this should be a paid job. And the decider is if it will take me longer than 10 mins to do then it should be a paid job hence I leave them to you guys. Ps I work very fast but everyone should decide there limit and what they are prepared to do for free. I honestly would spend most the day working for free for people on here but I stop myself so everyone else can have a go and make some cash maybe. And to be honest the easy jobs just dont interest me anymore a lot of requests I have done as I thought that will be challenging but I dont upload it. I now know what my skill level is what I can or Cant do and this forum let me put my skill in perspective to other hobbiest gurus. And Yes I am aware there are a few of you out there where this is your life and use it as a referral to your own business but many of us are here for fun or to swap ideas even to show off there masterpieces but I will not be stepping on anyones toes nor will I ever really try to achieve something for someone well As that is for the people that want paying for it. You want paying Earn it fair dos It would be pretty shitty of someone like me to come along spend 5 mins on a job and then charge when someone else will come along spend 30 mins and put a lot of thought into gets nothing.... So now my work will be the charities or unanswered threads that way if it is unanswered the people that work for a fee cant complain because they would have left it ignored for 24 hours and if this is your job then you should check often to see new posts... But as of now it has shined on me that some of you are here for the money so I will step back and only help out if needed

I'm not here for the money. I've done one paid job and it was fluke that the person liked my work work better than Hawkeye's and private messaged me. I'm here to learn from others and to help others learn as I have. I think you can review the last several threads I have replied to and come up with I am here to help and gleen what I can from others. Which by the way are threads that were started after this one.

I was not naming anyone in particular since I joined it seemed the done thing someone posted a request it got done I am guilty of 1 of those people that jumped on the band wagon. I only just learnt of the freelance section recently like I said nothing good in life comes for free so I will post rushed jobs occassionally but most my threads I post in will be text only or screen caps from now I may participate in other GUrus saying hey I have a picture what can you do to it or the odd challenge here and there. I will however participate more in the open mind posts where people say how can I make this picture better I want something to challenge me. THe difference is I am off work sick long term at the moment under going Chemo therapy etc So I have a lot of spare time when you are pretty much house bound you look for things to occupy yourself where as you guys all go to work and get out out and about I dont get that privelage at the moment So yes I may be more keen to do something for others But I am getting into other stuff that teaches me something and that is keeping me occupied I log in a couple of times a day on here but before this site was always logged in in the background somewhere. And I really Dont think I have done anything worth saying I have stepped on someones toes or lost someone some money but then I guess people see it differently. So as of now I am here to help and not here to do...

Hoogleman, Sorry to hear about the Chemo. I pray it gets your issue resolved quickly.

I am just tryn to remind everyone of the freelance section. I did a free job myself here a little while back and got called on the carpet so to speak. Im just tryn to keep with the intent of these forums and remind others to do so aswell.

Thanks I guess when your down you look for anything to keep you distracted and I really do apologise if I have done something that has blcked somebody else from making money. I agree though anybody that is actually good at photoshop and has a good understanding of it should come at a price I know it takes a lot of time and effort to learn it I have about $4000 worth of Adobe products on my computer plus about $3000 worth of plug ins etc (not just photoshop) So why should you have to spend that kind of moneyand time learning it just to give it away for free. I totally agree some people here deserve a payment for there work and they should get it.

No lets not turn this to me this thread has a valid point that I support I would like to let people know I may seem keen to do something due to my circumstances to pre occupy myself. I am not here to say hey look what I can do or use this as a show off forum. I generally do try to help people out as much as I can out of boredom and I hope you understand that. But I can assure you once I am back upon my feet again and I am not alienated from my friends anymore (trust me it happens) Then I will be exactly the same I earnt my money to buy the software and invested time to learn it So will not give away good work for free......

But thank you for your wishes

This subject has been discussed to nausea IMO...... everyone wants to save money, so if a few pushes of keys gets it free it will continually happen. It's a losing battle when it comes to free websites (forums) jmo

That my friend was and to a certain extent, still is my opinion. I actually learnt photoshop by trying to help people doing their photos so for me it was just like in your case very rewarding, both getting the practice and also to make someone happy along the way. Follow your heart and mind like the rest of us. If you wanna do freebies then do it. If anyone having a problem with it then just let it remain their problems.

That is another good point many users have improved a lot from tackling other peoples problems I dont want to sound bad or show people up but Look at some of the work Clare is producing now 3 months ago she would never have posted such high standard work, She has come a long way from interacting with other people (sorry Clare no offence) Also the other 1 is Paul (AKA Belial) I dont mean to be dis respectful he dablled in photoshop came her and has now developed his own style. Which has let him explore other options and has improved greatly that shows in his challenge this week I saw a head swap / face swap attempt a while back and that had nothing on what he does now with the knowledge he has developed. I do not mean to be offensive but it proves this forum is helping people out and we are learning from it I love comparing techniques etc we all have our ways of doing a job but even now I will try some other persons technique to achieve the same thing. I love learning new Things and I have learnt a lot here myself before I use to use photoshop primarily for photo enhancement beauty touch ups and now I am wacking out whole websites 100% completed in photoshop 6 months ago I would have laughed at you if you said you could do that without the use of dreamweaver or some other web development package but thanks to site grinder plug in you can do it all. I am never going to be recreating Van Gough Paintings by hand BUt I am a confident user now and this forum has helped me develop it.

Yes you´re right. Meeting like minded have a big positive effect when it comes to creativity and progress. Without the forum that I once attended I would most certainly have dropped all interest in PS pretty fast. But thanx to the community and the fun that we had while making our "artwork" (one worse than the other) it soon grew in to become a natural part of my life and have remained that way ever since. I am sure that also this forum have the same effect on most people coming here. It´s a wonderful meeting place.

I have used lots of forums over the years mainly to do with ghost research and alien life forms, hey it was a release valve i needed at that time in my life.
I have always drawn, as a boy into manhood i became a tattoo artist late on really, i still dabble with ink now and then, not my main job now.
Then i found CS2 in a shop on special so i got a copy, i had heard all about how this program could make drawing certain things easier with a little practice and know how.

I have been playing around with it ever since, nothing serious just playing and having fun with it.
Then that day came when i thought i will have a look and see if i can find a board where it looked like the kind of places i used to use i n the early days.
This place popped up in a search and i joined, within hours i knew this was it, people here are warm and friendly - welcoming and knowledgeable.

The biggest gain any new member as in joining here is that WE ALL HAVE THE SAME PASSION what ever our individual levels of ability.
I thank H for his words about me, he is correct i have grown here and i am so grateful to everyone, even the newbie's give sparks off sometimes, which
is what this place is all about, friendship/helpfulness/sharing but above all learning some professionalism, i too am guilty of doing the free stuff (it's fun).

I understand that some here use the creature as a means of living, but 'paid' work is totally different to what normally gets asked on the general boards i think.
And most of us have bitched at some stage over how we do the requests, only to see the buggers slide out the door (thats our fault) But we still do it.
I did a removal yesterday, simply because i had been in the sun most of the afternoon and i got burned, silly me i should have known better. I came back in put this place back on as i normally do read the request in the general section and thought, 'i ain't done one of these for a bit', so i did it - 20 minutes later job done (passable).

Nearly all of the paying requested stuff i can't do anyway, i am not into the page design stuff or the poster/logo stuff really as i have no real desire or the knowledge base to attempt them, i might try one off site but never any good lol.

All in all this place is my second home, my family tell me that all the time (sad me).

First and most important, Hoogle get well.

..so if help is not to be given for free so be it. .....

Welcome Sierraccr.
No that's not true at all, we try to give as much help as possible.
The discussion here is should photographic and graphics editing be given away for free.

Everyone here has a valid point.

First, the Freelance section.
This has been a free for all.

By now you guys all know what the rules for that section are.
You need 30 posts and 30 days to post there.
You should negotiate a price for the work there and never post finished images.
You can email the finished product to the customer after payment.

Now Freelance isn't the busiest section when it comes to new posts but I'm not seeing the freelance members that do this for a living respond to many of these posts.

This discussion has made some our most active members more aware of the restrictions of this section so that will hopefully put an end to un-watermarked images in Freelance.
Also, if an unqualified member responds just report them and I'll delete the post as soon as I see it.

If the freelancers respond to the posts in Freelance, the rest of us don't, and I delete the unqualified responses this section may have a chance.

As for the rest of the forum.
It's true you invested in expensive software and hardware and your talents have a value, but what do "you" want out of this forum?

Do you enjoy the challenges and are they improving your skills?
Is editing images and posting them here what you enjoy?

If so then post edited images in any section but the Freelance section.
You're supposed to have fun here at PSG.
