Gradient problem

Im trying to change the color of the gradient but as you can see from the video it was not letting me. i would open up the color picker, type in a color and result was back to the original grey.

Try switching the colour mode of the document (Image -> Mode -> RGB).

it did, how it got that way i have no idea.

It usually reverts to grayscale when you open an image that is already grayscale; in other cases, the mode will be indexed colour, and you won't be able to actually edit the layers of the file. In this case, do exactly the same
