new adjustment layer - Selective color??

I am wondering if someone can give me some clarification. When you choose a New Adjustment Layer and then selective color, can someone tell me what the color is in the drop down box? I thought it was the color you were using to adjust the other colors, but that doesn't seem to be the case. How do you add a solid color layer in overlay then?

Selective color is just that, selecting a color individually to adjust. To add a solid color, use a Solid Color adjustment layer, then select the blending mode.
