OS - Windows 10 Photoshop CC 2017

Photoshop CC 2017 will not even start. When I initiate the program, it appears to run, but before it starts, but after the Workspace appears, I get a message that Photoshop 2017 has stopped working and Windows is checking for a solution. The program then shuts down. I assume Windows is doing this.

Windows recently implemented a major update, so I don't know if that is causing the problem, or if Photoshop has become corrupted. Is it possible to download and install the latest version independently of the usual update procedure?

I am a bit desperate as I am taking a course in Photoshop and need the application to complete assignments. My thanks in advance for any help in getting this resolved.

Hi

You can download PS direct from here
http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cc-2017-direct-download-links.html

You'll need to sign in with your adobe account first

Can you check Event Log to see what's causing the crashes
Just type eventvwr on the start menu and look for something like this
Untitled.jpg

Look for a Photoshop crash entry
Report back with the error!

P.S. I don't think it's a Win 10 update issue as I have Win 10 pro on both my Laptop and PC with all MS updates and don't have any issues

It would be a good idea to run this if your going to remove PS

gedstar, you will have to pardon my ignorance, but I don't see anything that allows me to get to a start menu. Where do I find it? Thanks.

No worries

It's Windows start button

Then just type eventvwr and you should see this
Untitled2.jpg

Then just click on Event Viewer to open up the snapin

You can also right click on the Windows start button and select this
Untitled3.jpg

OK I know what causing the issue, it's Lavasoft
It's an known issue with PS2017 CC

More info
https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2230828

Rename this file LavasoftTcpService64.dll to Old.LavasoftTcpService64.dll
Located C:\Windows\system32\LavasoftTcpService64.dll and that should fix the problem

I'd recommend removing the app altogether, install these instead, both free
https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/

You can also install Comodo Interent Security it's free, I've been using it for years

gedstar, I removed anything related to Lavasoft and that seems to have solved the problem. PS CC 2017 now starts and runs, the only problem is that everything has been reset to "factory defaults", but I can fix that. Thanks very much for your help and also introducing me to the Event Viewer.

I do have Norton/Symantec Antivirus stuff installed, so that should prove sufficient, at least it has protected me from all that's out there so far.
