Hi folks. I'm writing a paper on this and was wondering whether you could help me with this.

Can you describe your Photoshop workflow when it comes to creating textures from photographs?
Any type of texture (used for different things, maybe 3D use such as Maya, UDK)

Thanks!

Google has far more suggestions than one website. Read a bunch create your own "personal workflow" I do believe that's what Tom's saying by posting that link

Thanks, iDaddio, that's *exactly* what I meant. I just didn't have time to spell it out as I was rushing to get out the door this AM.

That being said, perhaps if we knew more about your paper, we could help more.

For example, if the paper is for a photography or Photoshop class and is to show how many different ways there are to do this specific, seemingly simple operation, that would slant things one way (eg, inspire more technical discussion of the pros and cons of the different methods).

Compare that to the case where the paper was for a psychology class (eg, where making seamless textures is just a randomly picked example of a job), or an Operations Research class (eg, where efficiency and time management was the key).

I see what you mean.
Well I'm an Animation student and I'm specialising in Photoshop-it's part of a module.
As such, I have to write a paper on best practice for Photoshop texture making from photographs.
My enquiry is how do YOU make your textures from photographs?
I'll get to Best practice on my own-I guess I didn't make that clear-but I need opinions from actual artists/industry people/newbies etc. Hence my question.

I have a deadline soon so if you could please write one paragraph about what you (or you people) do in order to create your textures from photographs, that'd be great!

Thanks.

Sure, here's a short paragraph for you:

"I use what is probably THE most common method to create seamless textures. It is described in many places on the web and can be found by Googling {photoshop seamless texture offset}. The very first hit in this search, http://www.designbash.com/photoshop/photoshop-offset-filter-making-seamless-textures/ , is representative of most of the rest of the hits, and is, in fact, exactly what I do."

BTW, when you include this in your report, please make sure that you use normal academic citation procedures such as those described in the Chicago Manual of Style, Strunk and White, etc.

You will notice that unfortunately, because of my position on the faculty of a major US university, I had to carefully avoid writing my own actual detailed technical description because original text such as I might write for you would almost certainly not be found if your instructor uses anti-plagiarism software and you happened to forget to cite your source.

PS - BTW, is this your course: G443 BSc/CAVFX ? It looks like you have a very nice curriculum.
