Repairing choppy pixels after resizing...

Basically... I want to enlarge a small picture, but I need to learn how to repair the pixels from their stretched out, or "blocky", state.

I suspect there may be an alternative trick to this other than what I asked for, but at least the general goal is on the table.

sounds like you may have to add a color overlay or repaint the damage area.... a sample image would help
 
Just to be clear, you can't repair the pixels, or create something from nothing.
That is, you can't create information that isn't there.

The best you can do is the following:

Open the image in PS and go to Image|Image Size or Alt+Crtl+I.
Check all the boxes on the bottom and select Bicubic Smoother.

Double, or quadruple (or more) the Resolution.
This will smooth out the jagged look.
Then sharpen the image.

You haven't added anything to the image, you can't add detail that isn't there, but I think this is what you're asking to do.
 
That's what I mean by repainting basically adding what is not there
 
There could be other ways to help you but it's hard to say without seeing the image. if you post it here we can take a look.
