Hi All,
I am trying to recreate the effect shown in the attached picture where it looks like the red and white object is moving as a result of the traced path.
Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Hello Maggie and welcome to PSG.

Just letting you know that I'm working on this for you but I have not yet found the best technique for making the "swoosh".

Here is my first attempt which I'm not satisfied with.

As soon as I can find a better solution, I will post it!

Hopefully someone else will jump in on this.

How about...

FILTER > BLUR GALLERY > PATH BLUR

Looks to be the ideal thing if the OP has the right PS version.

Regards.

This is a new tool for me............I'll have to watch some tutorials on it.

Sorry my reply was short and sweet but I'm right in the middle of something and just threw that in there while I still remembered about it.

This is a pretty good tutorial on it...

Could be a waste of time though if the OP doesn't have access to it.

Regards.

What a great tool! I can see many ways to utilize it. I'll be doing some experimenting.

As you said though, could be a waste if the OP is not running CC.

Hi Sam,
Thank you so much for your reply. This is absolutely perfect! Can I ask how you did it?
Well, the image in post #2 was a conglomeration of several techniques I was experimenting with.

The colorization of the swoosh is the hard part to explain. I used the Brush Tool and created several different colored spots in a horizontal row.

I then used the Rectangular Marquee Tool to create a thin selection across the dots.

With the selection active, I entered Free Transform and then stretched the dots towards the top and bottom.

Hit the check mark or click enter to accept the state change.
Command + D to deselect.

I then turned it into a smart object and applied a smart Gaussian Blur Filter.

The actual shaping of the swoosh was done with the warp tool in the transform function. I then clipped it to a shape layer that I had made using the Pen Tool.
Of course I had to use layer masks for the blending.

As I stated, I'm not happy with the result. I'm still working on a better way.

What version of Photoshop are you using?

...I am using version 6.1...
Are you sure? Adobe never released a Photoshop 6.1....6.0 (Venus in Furs, 2000), went straight to 7.0 (Liquid Sky, 2002).

Quite impressive if you have a version that old still working.

I got the version 6.1 from below which is copy pasted from the "system info."
I was assuming this was the version?

Adobe Photoshop Version: 2014.0.0 20140508.r.58 2014/05/08:23:59:59 x64
Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit
Version: 6.1 Service Pack 1
