Hello,

There are alot of tutorials telling how to wrap a texture around cylinder... but let's say I got a already textured cylinder and would like to unwrap a texture from it... I know that I am able to get only a part of it, but still... how do I do that?

Best regards!

Assuming we're talking about PS 3D

Untitled-1.jpg

- make the texture layer active
- click on the diffuse tab and select edit texture
- the texture will open as a PSB file (wireframe with texture)

Untitled-2.jpg

Now you can alter the texture or save it in the desired format

I was talking about Photoshop CS5/6 :) The cylinder is on photo.
Perhaps you could post an example of what your referring to?

If your just wanting whats on a 2D photo of a cylinder, all you can salvage are the available pixels.

Make a selection of what you would like..........here I used the Pen Tool

And then Copy to it's own layer (Cmd/Cntrl + J)

From here do you want to flatten (take the curves out) the image?

Great example... and why can't I make a geometric modification so it would get mapped to 2d (in the meaning of perspective) texture?

Not sure what example do you expect... a photo of a can or a mug?

Pictures from Internet. Not the best, as I expect it to be a totally frontal picture, not from the front-top. But still gives an idea what I need.
