Tools problem

My tools do not work, only the hand tool. The hand tool stays on even when I click on another tool. I have deleted preferences, uninstalled and re-installed and nothing seems to work. Can any one help? I am running Mac OS 10.6.7. Thank you.
 
If you hold the space bar it will give you the hand tool. Make sure it isn't stuck, or you aren't leaning on it.
 
try resetting all tools if that doesnt help

Try resetting Photoshop.

Start Photoshop and immediately hold down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows)
or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS X).

Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"
 
No problems in any other programs?

You're sure the H key and the spacebar aren't stuck?
Are you running any kind of keyboard remapping program?
Can you borrow another keyboard?

I run Windows so I don't know about Macs but I assume you can disable startup programs like anti virus, auto updaters, etc.
Try that and if PS is OK try enabling the startup programs one or two at a time.
 
I read this in another forum it was with vista but apparently this problem could be linked to your clipboard. try this and see if it helps:

Edit>Purge>all

You will have to have an image open but it wont effect any image you have open it will just purge everything you have in RAM for photoshop. Hope it works good luck.
